Microbiology outreach in a K-12 school in rural Alaska, May 2024
I am passionate about connecting with communities, sharing my science, and empowering others.
Presenting on “Social equity in the microbiome sciences” at the International Symposium on Microbial Ecology, August 2024.
I am a science instructor at Fostering Science Denali Camp, a week-long overnight camp in Denali National or State Park for youth ages 10-17 in foster care. We combine science education, art, cultural experiences, and adventure to make both science and the outdoors more accessible.
Fostering Science
I provide science outreach in rural and urban areas around Alaska through talks, hands-on microbiology activities, and town-hall meetings that educate and empower students and engage local communities in scientific research.
Educational Outreach
I provide gear and logistical support for Inspiring Girls* Alaska expeditions in the Eastern Alaska Range. This program offers free expeditions for high school youth that interweave science, art, and outdoor exploration to empower girls* to ask, test, create, and explore in the backcountry.
